1965 Velocette Venom

1965 Velocette Venom

For your consideration is an extremely fine example of a 1965 Velocette Venom motorcycle - featuring the lightened crank and engine modifications that led to a 4hp increase. A frame-up restoration, built for the owner as a rider. Sporting a 'Tony Smith Special' midnight black paint job that you can see your reflection in, with gold hand pin-striping. All other work completed by noted British specialist Garrie Cook and his team at Cook's Classic Rebuilds in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The bike was completely disassembled; frame stripped and painted; new stainless steel rims, laced with stainless steel spokes, shod in period correct Dunlop tyres and balanced; hubs bead blasted, painted and fitted with new brake shoes; fully rebuilt front forks, new Hagon shocks mounted on the rear; engine completely rebuilt from the crank up, all appropriate parts bead blasted, barrels bored and honed, fitted with new piston and rings then painted, the head was planed, valve seats cut, new valves and guides installed; carb overhauled; new header pipe and fishtail muffler fitted; completely rebuilt clutch with all new parts; rebuilt transmission with many new parts; NOS Smiths clock mounted with new speedo drive and all new control cables; new harness wired; magneto rebuilt; and literally topped off with a new dual seat saddle.

All perishables or wear items were replaced - gaskets and seals (what few there are), including head gasket; rubber, from tyres to foot pegs; bearings, wheel, steering, etc., and bushings, including small end bush - full parts list available upon request. The vast majority of parts were purchased from Grove Classic Motorcycle, with the exception of tyres, rims, spokes and sundry sourced from our suppliers.

The bike has just 150 miles on a freshly rebuilt engine. It has clear title in the owner's name.

As noted earlier, this cosmetically stunning and completely sorted motorcycle was built to be ridden; all it needs is a rider. Owner is getting too old to use. It has been driven briefly over the past two summers. Needs absolutely nothing.

Happy to discuss any aspect of the restoration or engine rebuild.
