1979 Triumph Bonneville T140E

Sold 10/03/2023

T140E purchased from first owner's estate in Victoria BC and rebuilt by Cook’s Classic Rebuilds in Halifax, NS. ~7500 miles on the speedo when purchased in 2004.

Fitted with chromed home market large capacity gas tank by first owner. Second large tank obtained from Australia was painted in correct 1979 UK black livery with lined candy apple red ‘flash’. Metric speedo fitted during rebuild. Powder coated frame and other components.

First owner installed an auxiliary spin-on oil filter on a bracket below the carbs; this was replaced by another from Grin’s Triumph clamped out of sight on the oil tank. Tympanium II power unit mounted out of sight on rear fender. Dual Bumm mirrors and grab rail as used on later Bonnevilles were fitted.

Original chrome parcel carrier comes with the bike. Emgo 1/4 fairing. Leaky stock airbuses and filters replaced by dual chrome K&N filter housings which required use of retro style side covers. Stock airbag, filter and fiberglass she covers come with the bike, as do the original red side covers and new covers painted black and with new insignia (never installed).

New tires, new wider UK seat to match the home market large gas tank and low handlebars. LED tail-light. Spare set of front signal lights on long stems to clear the 1/4 fairing. Amal Mk. 1.5 carbs as fitted to Harris built 1980s Bonnevilles under licence from Bloor. Hagon progressive springs fitted fore and aft. Hagon chrome rear shock covers.

Total engine rebuild was done several years after original restoration/upgrades because it was discovered the failed speedo was not the type mentioned in restoration guides. However, engine wear was consistent with the ~10,000 miles on the speedometer. Only ~900 km on new metric speedo since engine rebuild.

Driven recommended break-in distance, serviced and has been in storage since pending sale. Comes out for short rides in the summer and for biannual motor vehicle inspection. Due for serving at Cooks in October and will be available immediately thereafter.

Asking $7,900.
